Who We Are

Mission Statement

Rock Solid Gymnastics is dedicated to teaching gymnastics excellence to children of all ages and abilities in a safe, stimulating and encouraging environment while also instilling strong character virtues that will inspire them to be pillars in their community for years to come.

Philosophy

While challenging each athlete to progress to his or her individual ability and commitment level, we will strive to help each child grow, not only in his/her physical abilities, but also as people of character, integrity, and sportsmanship, and to become contributing members of society. We will assist our parents in teaching their children to take responsibility for their actions, to think for themselves, to encourage them to act respectfully to their peers and coaches, and to instill a sense of pride in their athletic abilities and accomplishments.

Emily Schutte, Owner

Emily’s passion for gymnastics began very early as she began competing at the age of 5 and was a competitive gymnast for 14 years in USAG and USAIGC ending her career as a successful Level 9. She competed in countless state and regional competitions and 6 national championships. She was on the traveling optional team at her club gym for 8 years in Ft. Collins, CO where she had the opportunity to compete across the country in 13 different states. In her gymnastics adventures she trained with Bela & Martha Karolyi and also trained with Steve Nunno. Her greatest gymnastics accomplishment was in 1996 when she was the Regional Beam champion. She competed and was captain of her high school gymnastics team in Ft. Collins where they took first in the State Championship in 2002. While attending Colorado State University, she returned to the high gymnastics world as team choreographer for her high school team. She has a BS in Political Science with a minor in Criminology & Criminal Justice.

Emily has been coaching in the Charleston area since the fall of 2011. In that time she has choreographed numerous routines both on floor and beam; many winning state titles. Alongside fellow coaches has produced numerous South Carolina state champions as well as regional qualifiers.  Emily is also an accredited gymnastics judge.

When not in the gym, Emily can be found enjoying baseball games at the Riverdogs alongside her husband Brian and daughter Megan.

Anne Funderburk, Program Director

Anne is from western New York and has been involved in gymnastics and coaching her entire life. She grew up in the gym as a competitive gymnast and, later, as a successful pole vaulter.  Anne is a committed coach, with 11 years of coaching experience in Club level gymnastics. Her skills and experience in a wide variety of team environments have produced 5 state championship teams and dozens of individual state champions.

"I love watching kids learn and become successful. Success in gymnastics is ever-changing to the individual: something that challenges you one day will eventually be an after-thought. It's the cycle of frustration, determination, and success that makes the journey worth it, and makes gymnastics fun and rewarding."

Hallie Glannon, Preschool & Recreational Director

Hallie competed in gymnastics for fifteen years and reached USAG Level 9. Hallie majored in psychology at Skidmore College. While attending college, Hallie both competed and coached for the Saratoga Regional YMCA gymnastics team. Since moving to South Carolina, Hallie has been coaching Xcel competitive teams. As a coach, Hallie strives to make gymnastics accessible and fun for every individual, regardless of age or ability. Hallie is originally from Massachusetts and loves the South Carolina climate since she can be barefoot almost all the time.

Hilary McSheehy, Team Member

Hilary is 24 years old and is originally from Wilmington, NC. She was absolutely crazy and a daredevil early on, so her parents put her into the gymnastics world pretty quickly so that she could learn the proper ways to do things and not kill herself. She fell in love instantly! Between her time in NC and living in Severna Park, MD- where she began competing, she was a gymnast for 11 years before moving to Charleston, SC. She acquired a BA in Christian Studies with a minor in Music from Anderson University. After graduating, she began coaching in the Charleston area where she met her amazing current co-workers. After a year over seas in Bulgaria, she was offered a position coaching at Rock Solid and is happy to be back teaching kids about a sport that she loved so much when she was growing up!

Erin Pipkin, Team Member

Erin grew up in Moncks Corner, South Carolina where she danced and did tumbling for 9 years. As a kid, she was always flipping on the furniture and around her house, so she decided to try gymnastics.

She started off just practicing with team girls and decided to compete after a few months. She competed 3 years with the Goose Creek Aerials. Erin has worked many camps and has helped coach alongside others in both gymnastics and cheerleading. She has always had a love for gymnastics and

children; her experiences as a coach have played an important role in her life, as she is pursuing a degree in Elementary Education.
